Allendale 71, Sparta 39: Jordan Deming leads five double-digit scoring players in boys basketball win
Allendale’s boys basketball team clinched a share of the OK Blue Conference championship in dominating fashion Friday night, beating Sparta 71-39.
The victory in the Blue finale enabled the Falcons to keep pace atop the league standings at 9-1 with West Catholic, which beat Comstock Park Friday. Allendale and West Catholic split their two conference games. It is Allendale’s first conference championship since 2008.
It was Allendale’s fifth consecutive win and second victory in three days since the Falcons defeated Belding, 70-28, Wednesday in a make-up game that was snowed out Tuesday. Allendale will wrap up the regular season Tuesday at undefeated Forest Hills Central before visiting Calvin Christian Thursday.
Five players scored in the double-digits for the Allendale. Jordan Deming had 14, Trevor Bastien had 13, Nate Umlor and Hunter Greer, 12, and Ethan Kafila, 11.
The teams were tied 10-10 after the first quarter, before Allendale outscored Sparta 17-9 in the second.
“Defensively we did a great job in the first quarter, but Allendale caught fire with their 3-pointers,” Sparta coach Mike Cnossen said. “They have all the threats, they can go inside or outside. They’re a tough team to beat.”
Allendale had a total of 10 3-pointers, including four in the second quarter.
Jacob Shivers led Sparta with a game-high 19 points.
