Congratulations to our Spelling Winners!

Congratulations to  APS Spelling Champion Dakota Riemersma and Runner-up Micayla Timmer. Dakota’s winning word was “frigate” and Micayla’s word was “serpentine”

Allendale Art and Photography Students Win Regional Art Competition

safe_imageAllendale Art and Photography students did amazingly well this year at the Regional Scholastic Art Competition. Nine of the best pieces were entered and SEVEN of the nine were selected for awards. There were well over 1,000 entries in this year’s competition (the west central region is a large region encompassing the west half of the state as well as Lansing, Saginaw, and northern lower MI) and our students were selected as 7 of the best pieces from the region. The winning artwork can be seen at:

Grace Wiersema | B&W Photography | “Inflamed- Gold Key (this is the highest regional award and her piece will continue on to the national competition in NYC).

Allendale Robotics Team Wins State Championship

Team 7023, the HexaSonics, participated in the FTC State Championships on Saturday, December 20th in Battle Creek. During the competition the HexaSonics performed extraordinarily well and have once again made the APS program and community proud of them.

Their alliance won the Edison division and played against the Franklin division for the State title. Their
alliance won the event and they are a member of the 2015-16 FTC State Champions. The HexaSonics, along with Robodux, also set the current World Record Score for the current FTC game (352 points without penalties). The HexaSonics were also a finalist for the Connect Award and have earned advancement to the Super Regional in Iowa in March.
